ad parody for Riding in Cars with The Boys

Over the 2021-2022 winter break I binged the TV series The Boys. The Boys is so visceral, nihilistic, and sometimes touching. It also features some sweet Billy Joel tunes. The comics that the series is based upon are pretty gnarly too, but the series is great example of how comics benefit from the long form of television, rather than just a movie adaptation.

After watching so much of the show, I couldn’t stop thinking about the Drew Barrymore film, Riding in Cars with Boys, and decided that a genre mashup would be perfect. This poster is based on the DVD cover and the layout elements are pretty much in the same place as the original art work. After spending so much time looking at the original, I thought, “man they kinda did a crappy job, didn’t they?” So I guess my mashup with The Boys couldn’t make it much worse.
